Growth

Blue skies down by the river and birdsong everywhere. I hear a woodpecker on my walks most mornings which is lovely. He is showing off a bit and staking his claim to his territory I think.

It's been a week of small frustrations here. You know the sort. Banging your head against a brick wall with the Revenue. Ditto trying to open a bank account for a child. Trying to tell the printer that there is nothing wrong with the brand new genuine branded cartridge you have spent a small fortune on. Ordering a new printer, then ordering the ink somewhere else, then being told the printer is not in stock. My head felt dangerously hot at one point, I worried it might explode.

The littlest boy has grown over the latest lockdown so that neither his school trousers nor his school shoes fit him any more. He had to take a note in so that he could wear non-uniform shoes as they are being quite strict at his school these days after a number of rather shambolic years. The middle boy also seems to have grown out of his school shoes. He pointed out that they were bought for him way back in August, so it is no surprise that he needs new ones. Good grief. He has only worn them for about three months.

Anyway, I am being all calm and zen about it all now and not getting het up about things I cannot control. Well, okay, that is absolute rubbish, but it's what I aspire to.

Bertie had a hair cut last week, which he absolutely loathes. He shakes like a leaf when he realises we're headed for the groomer's. I practised walking past her house with him last night to try and get used to it, but it didn't work at all and I ended up carrying him. I wonder what he objects to so much. She does shave him quite closely in places.

My camera isn't working properly at the moment. On an ordinary setting it lets in so much light that a picture is almost entirely white, so I have to put it on a really dark setting. Not sure if it is fixable, but it is making taking pictures tricky. Maybe it's time to look for a new-to-me one. The biggest boy did mutter something about giving me his old one, but I fear I would be told off all the time for slinging it carelessly in my bag. Any sort of definitive action is slightly beyond me right now for some reason, so I will no doubt just stumble on taking over-exposed things or too dark things and muttering under my breath.

I hope this post didn't come out as too much of a moan. I am very chipper really, just slightly short on any actual news. How are things at your end?

  1. Poor Bertie! Maybe it's the smell of the other dogs or maybe he just dislikes having a haircut, in which case I can sympathise!
It did occur to me that a lot of pupils would have bought new uniform, shoes etc and would not have had chance to wear them before they were outgrown. How annoying.
I can relate to your printer problems. I have to physically connect my laptop to the printer otherwise it gives me a 'printer offline' message. In the past, R has caught me carrying my laptop into the study to prove to it that the printer is switched on!
Good luck with the camera - your photos above are lovely. Blossom against blue sky is one of my favourite things. xx

  2. Most of my gadgets are hand me downs from my boys; they are very useful. I know that hot feeling so well. Printers always induce that feeling to the point I feel like throwing things grrrrr. Hopefully you are very zen now and things are ticking along nicely. Sunshine and blossom certainly help. I’m going to need lots of calm vibes here this morning as I promised to cover a box with material. I feel it may go horribly wrong lol. Have a lovely weekend. B x

  3. Your photos are lovely - we have some uniform issues which I am ignoring. The girls school shoes were bought just before the start of the Autumn term 2019 and they are still being worn. In my eyes they've been sat under the bed unused for 9 out of the last 12 months so I don't feel I've had my moneys worth yet! however, L did say her toes were right at the end. If need be she has some black trainers she can wear for the summer term to get her through to the summer.
Poor old Bertie, isn't it funny how dogs just know when its somewhere they don't like - I remember as a child going with my Mum to the vets with our dog and she just started shaking as we pulled up outside. I seem to remember my poor old Mum having to carry her in otherwise she wouldn't move.

  4. Boys and growing, I swear I still look at Mr 27 and think he is getting taller. But if he is it is on him because there is no shoe or trouser buying from Mom anymore. Your photos are beautiful, glad spring is on the way. As for printers I feel your pain as mine kept gobbling up loads of paper yesterday and getting jammed. Stay safe.

  5. It seems like you had a few too many niggles last week. I envy Bert as I need a haircut.
Nothing much in the way of news here, which in some ways is a good thing.
Take care, and have a good weekend. xx

  6. Hello!
    Nice to hear from you!
    Printers are a pain.
    Enjoy the weekend.
    It is quite chilly here.

  7. My printer also gives me fits and I keep threatening to get a new one but my handy hubby keeps making it work. Our little Mocha loves our groomer and trots right in. Is there another one you could try? Maybe this one has traumatized Bertie? Hang in there.. they will stop growing one of these days! LOL! ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

  8. Badly behaved technology always drives me mad! They are just machines. Why do they think they can answer back?!

  9. A printer's main purpose is to frustrate its owners, not to print. I am convinced of it. I moved our printer to a different room because I didn't want to be reminded of it anymore. Of course this doesn't make printing any easier. On school uniforms and shoes, I am in the same boat as you are. James went to school wearing his big sisters black trainers. Thankfully black trainers are acceptable. I hope this week will be free of small frustrations. Cxx
