A miracle in bread

Obligatory snow shots from the morning dog walk. Otherwise it's been on the damp side. I did have something absolutely amazing to show you, but sadly now I don't. This is what happened... You may recall I bake a loaf of bread most days in a bread machine. The urchins get through a LOT of the stuff. Well, this morning when I went to take it out, there was a big flake stuck to the side of the tin, and when I removed it, it was shaped just like Great Britain, yes it was. A giant breadcrumb in the shape of Britain! I know! I showed the littlest boy, who was suitably impressed, then I eased it onto a plate and told him I'd show the others, who would also be amazed, and then I would photograph it.

Anyway, fast forward a couple of hours and we fell out about something or other and he stomped off into the kitchen AND ATE IT. The lesson being, if you ever come across something truly phenomenal you should take a picture of it immediately. I am of course hugely disappointed, I was almost certain it would go viral, if not make the front page of The Times. Honestly, you would have been lost for words. It had East Anglia and John o' Groats and Stranraer and Pembrokeshire and I bet I could even have found Northern Ireland if I'd gone back in the bread machine. There was quite a bit of Cornwall missing, but other than that it was pretty miraculous.

Otherwise I'm not sure I really have any news. Does anyone else? I've been working a lot and doing the odd bike ride, but otherwise staying below the parapet and powering on through.

The littlest boy is doing his online lessons opposite me at the dining table, which is brilliant because he has me on tap to fetch things for him whenever he needs them. It's quite funny hearing him in a lesson. I pretend not to hear anything, but of course I am listening to it all. Well, his bits anyway, he wears headphones. His PE teacher said that mums and dads could join in the workout, but sadly he wouldn't let me. Maybe next time...

Hope all is well out there and that everyone is hanging onto their sanity.

  2. Hanging on by my fingertips! Posts like this help though - I would love to have seen GB in bread flake form! I'm sure it would have made the front page; right up there with Jesus' face on a piece of toast etc. :O) Disappointing though the lack of photo is, your boy's act of revenge did make me laugh! Lovely snow pictures. We had some too and the best bit was that our snowy walk cleaned all the dried mud off my walking boots. Winning! Have a good week. xx

  3. Kids, eh? Who'd have 'em? Shame about the GB but hopefully the snowy walk made up for it.

  5. I too would have loved to have seen GB. We have no snow on here on south coast.
When cleaning before Christmas I threw down the cable and when I looked at it it had landed in the shape of a stocking. I did take a photo. I was so excited that the vacuum cleaner was joining in I sent it to others. I think most thought I was just bonkers!!!!

  6. They know just where to get you ...those boys! In my minds eye I can still see that bread flake, you described it so well. Who knows it might be one of the World next time.
Like you, every day is a little samey although I don’t have the excitement of listening in to boy’s lessons. Quite distracting I’m sure. Bet Bertie is loving the extra company. Have a good week and enjoy thar snow. I’m soooooooo envious.

  7. Tell him that the bread UK would have probably been worth thousands of pounds and to make up for its loss you will have to suspend his pocket money!

  8. I love the little statues!! A badger and a mouse, is it? How civilized that your dog walks involve art appreciation.

Huddling below the parapet here, too....which suits me just fine. A loaf a day? Ye gods! I bake two loaves every two weeks....seems there aren't a lot of bread eaters in my house. I'm sorry you lost your magical crumb....devastating....I once made a Mickey Mouse shaped pancake but no-one really appreciated the marvel of it and it was immediately gobbled up. Stay cosy and well xo

  9. Thank you, as ever, for your posts. They always make me smile, think and improve my day here in Cheltenham. I'm just stopping by to say thank you for the pictures and content. SO RELATE TO THE STOMPING OFF!

  10. Lovely wintry pictures. Your giant breadcrumb story had me smiling.
All's well here, and I'm sort of ticking over waiting for better weather so I can get plotting again.
    Take care. xx

  11. My children are grown up now but your post brought back so many funny memories of them when younger. My son bit the ears off his sisters chocolate bunny because she crushed his Easter egg with her bottom pretending to be a mother hen. Oh I miss those days x

  17. Well, I think that is pretty amazing, a breadcrumb that looks like Britain. The wrath of a child, eh?

Loved this post, very funny and definitely good for me health and wellbeing. Have a good week xx

  18. He ATE it? Oh my god, that's the perfect revenge! Kudos to him, although annoying for you.
Managing to just about hold on to sanity over here, although I did cut my fringe...which is probably a sign that I'm not.

  19. I think next time you have a bread machine miracle you need to hide the evidence, boys, they just do whatever they want whenever they want! Nothing that exciting happened to me this week thats for sure. Have a wonderful weekend.

  22. Your photos are lovely. I really like the snowy trees photo and the others of dark, bare branches against the fading light. Trees are beautiful with all their greenery but equally so in a mysterious, otherworldly way with their bare branches in fall and winter. Greetings from snowy Canada.
