Vagaries

Well that was a wild and windy weekend wasn't it. If I can upload some photos you'll see a palm tree that looks a bit like a photo from the Caribbean when there's a hurricane about to hit. But at the moment Blogger is refusing to load my pictures. I do hope I haven't reached my photo limit on Blogger or anything drastic. Maybe I'll never be able to post another picture and you'll just have to imagine what it all looked like.*

My printer is refusing to print as well, honestly I find this stuff SO frustrating. It doesn't like the new ink cartridge. I've tried shouting, "THERE'S NOTHING WRONG WITH THE CARTRIDGE" at it, but so far nothing.

We've all had colds around here, the sort that make you a bit furious and irrational. The littlest boy has volunteered me to help at Tudor Day tomorrow. I shall be in charge of Cutting With A Sharp Knife in the Tudor Cooking segment of the day. Not sure what they're making, but I'm led to believe an onion will be involved. Swan and onion? Four and twenty blackbirds? Giblets simmered in blood?  I have slightly lost my voice which might not bode well in the event that I have to scream, "DON'T SLICE IT TOWARDS YOU". I'll give it my best shot, and I'll see you on the other side.

* I did it! After a lot of crossness I finally managed to upload photos. I logged out and logged back in again. The hi-tech solution. Honestly, is there anything quite as exhilarating as conquering technology? From the depths of despair to complete euphoria. Okay, maybe I'm exaggerating slightly, but it's not far off. Just the printer to go... CJ xx

  1. I had some trouble uploading photos a few weeks ago. When I had to restart it to install software updates the next day, everything was back to normal with Blogger. I wondered if there was an update to my browser that was holding Blogger back until I did it. But I really don't know. I hope there wasn't damage from the storm. I'm sorry you're all feeling poorly there; we were in your shoes last week and the week before that. 'Tis the season, right? I hope everyone gets to go home with all their fingers tomorrow. :)

  2. Whoa. Be careful wielding sharp objects, lady! This cold thing seems to be all around me. I'm trying to work my denial magic.

Don't get me started with home electronics and appliances right now. I'm in denial about that as well.

    feel better!

  3. Mercy! Cheering you on to finding cooperation from your electronics, feeling better fast, and safety supervising and using knives tomorrow. xx

  4. I find throwing things against the wall helps alleviate electrical-equipment-related- tension. Don't forget to take a packet of damp tissues with you to school to mitigate any onion-related tears xxx

  5. Poor thing, I can't help with the electronics but I can send you best wishes and hope you feel better soon.

  6. Oh CJ, you have my deepest sympathy. I do all my blogging on my iPad and thought I'd worked out the vagaries of Wordpress and then they update my template (without asking!) and it's like starting from scratch. I daren't blog on the computer as that is solely for work and I have to have some boundaries. Right now living in Tudor times sounds very appealing as I contemplate an 11-page report detailing all that is wrong with the electrical connections in our 18th century cottage. I'm thinking Wolf Hall and embroidery rather than hovel and gruel, except without the beheading of course. One of my ancestors was stretched on the rack for consorting with Katherine Howard before she married Henry. Yes, really! I rather envy you a day making Tudor sweetmeats. Have fun.

    1. I have, and it even printed a couple of sheets for me. It seems to be picking and choosing what it wants to print! CJ xx

  9. Technology is great, when it works! I was just on my way out but my car won't start, there's always something, isn't there?

  11. Your post actually made me laugh out loud! Misbehaving technology does have to be the most frustrating thing. I tried to upgrade my iphone software last week. The air was blue I can tell you after it asked me for the 11th time whether I wanted to back up to the cloud! Perhaps it is the fish wife tone of my shouty voice that the phone didn't like ;-)

  12. I had a similar problem with Blogger this weekend and wasted a number of hours trying to work round it. In the end I discovered that I needed to change my browser from Chrome to Firefox which led to much gnashing of teeth.

  13. Good to see that you solved the pictures problem. Good luck with the printer. I hope that you're all feeling better, and please no mishaps with the sharp knife and onion! Flighty xx

  14. I am so pleased that Blogger finally allowed you to upload your images because they are beautiful, you can see the effect of the wind in image #1. Lovely rain puddles, lakes and birds.
Computers and printers can be very frustrating when they don't work properly. My printer selects pages randomly and leaves some pages blank? Still trying to work out what is awry.
I hope you all feel well soon and good luck with Tudor Day!
    Warm greetings

  15. I feel your pain re misbehaving technology. Sometimes computers et al can be so irrational. I seem to remember a similar problem with an ink cartridge a while back. I think it was because we were using a re-filled one rather than a new one and it seems some printers are programmed only to accept new ones of a certain make ...grrr!

  16. You make me laugh! I am always to frustrated with technology, one of the many reasons why I won't tweet, instagram, snapchat or facebook!

  17. My laptop has been refusing to even acknowledge that we have a printer recently. Whenever I want to print something,I have to email it to L first. Swearing at it doesn't help; believe me I've tried! Love the windy pictures; I rather like windy weather, providing I'm safe indoors! Good luck with those knives. xx

  18. Congratulations! You are officially a techno geek. I love those photos - especially the palm one, so it was well worth persevering. I hope all your colds have cleared and that you didn't find yourself in the stocks at Tudor Day.

  19. That does look windy, our leeks and purple sprouting broccoli in the garden were almost vertical! Whenever we have problems with IT at work the help desk always tell us to switch it off and switch it back on! Glad you got the pictures uploaded, hope the printer started working again! Sarah x

  20. You made me giggle, I hate it when I have computer/printer problems. Hope you had a peaceful Tudor day, you have to love it when your children volunteer you for something (don't you) xx

  21. Yes it was blusterous, wasn't it? Ooh, technology, doesn't it make you swear? It doesn't make it work (hubby does that) but it helps to vent frustration, I find. Best of luck with the Tudor Cooking. If I were you, I'd insist on a Very Small Group at one time. xx

  22. The joys of computers hey! They are so irritating, especially when off and on works and then you never know why! At least you can share photos again!! I hope that Tudor Day went well. xx

Nice to see your wild and windy photos.

  25. Oh what lovely photos! So misty and moody.

I've been arguing with your Blogger blog for a while, by the way, it's been refusing to let me comment as my Wordpress blog for about, ummm, four months. I've been trying and trying but it just sends me back to the preview view over and over again. It has finally dawned on me that perhaps I could try and comment as unknown and see if that gets me anywhere. Let's give it a go!

If it does work, this is Sabrina, from Wolves in London!

    1. Hoorah! It did! Hello! I've been reading along all this time but been driven crazy by the fact I can't comment. I wonder if anyone else has been having the same issue? (Or perhaps they figured out long ago to try in another way...) It's all Blogger blogs, I've noticed, when I tried to comment on someone else's too...

    2. Sorry you've been having this problem, thanks for letting me know. And I'm glad you've managed to comment now, it's lovely to hear from you. CJ xx

  26. It looks like you have had some truly dreadful weather. I'm glad you go the photo thing figured out. Sometimes Blogger can be touchy. It must have been the week for printers to act up. Ours died last Thursday. It kept telling me the printer ink was low and refused to print, even after changing the cartridge. At least it was polite enough to expire during the online Black Friday deals on Amazon.

  27. Hey CJ,
Blogger can be very temperamental, can't it. So sorry you've all be struck down with the lurgy. Colds are the worse things, I think. Not ill enough to lie down, but not well enough to stand up. I love the sound of Tudor Day, and can picture you in a wimple. After visiting an NT castle in the summer, I now know all there is to know about how to make gunpowder, Tudor style. It involves lots of wee from gout ridden aristocrats apparently. Elizabeth the first even put a tax on it, gawd bless her.

  28. Technology is amazing when it works, but so frustrating when it doesn't! Glad that it finally worked for you, because I love seeing your pictures and what you've been up to. I hope you all are feeling better soon. I'm sure you'll need your strength to get through the cutting seminar:)

  29. It was wild and windy here too. My least favourite weather. I hope Tudor Day went off ok with no knife injuries and that you've conquered the cold. There's a lurgy in our house too – my youngest has just come home and gone straight to bed... Deep sigh. Have a good weekend CJ. Hope the sun shines where you are. Sam x
