Still toothache

Day 1 of half term and already I feel that the children have squeezed me dry financially. A few quid here and a few quid there. Just a snack or two. A thing and another thing. I may start leaving my purse at home. Or maybe I'll just stay at home. It's cold out there all of a sudden. The first swan arrived on the estuary today all the way from Siberia.

The photos are of a little poppy-themed yarn bombing we spotted on our travels. The whole little town was bedecked with them, it was lovely. I think I shall look for a crocheted poppy this year, with the money still going to the Poppy Appeal, but a nice yarny one.

I still have toothache and it's driving me bananas. I have ordered soup books from the library in a bid to eat something healthy. I have to admit my diet has been rubbish for a while now. Not nearly enough vegetables. Too much dairy and oats. Things that don't hurt my tooth to eat. But it can't go on, I know I'm not doing myself any favours. A little neglect isn't the end of the world, but it wouldn't do to get in the habit.

On the writing front, I am thinking about doing NaNoWriMo - National Novel Writing Month. The idea is you write 50,000 words in the month of November. Now I've written it down it sounds like madness. I have no idea where I'd find the time, but I think it's probably one of those things where there's never a perfect time. If I've given up by day 3 you'll need to pretend you never heard me say I'd do it.

  3. I'm sorry about your toothache, CJ. I have a temporary crown on one of my teeth right now, I have to go in for the permanent one tomorrow morning. I'm hoping this is the last of my recent dental woes. I hope your tooth is better soon. You tell those boys they need to get themselves jobs, the lazy bums! Ha. Just kidding. Hope they let you hold onto some of your money now. :)

  4. We went to a fete on the weekend and when I opened my purse this morning I'm sure moths flew out! Kids and the things they can squeeze you for... I'm sorry to hear your tooth is still giving you grief. Enjoy your soup :) When I get overwhelmed with something I tell myself I can do it for 15 minutes and I don't stop to think about it. It's quite amazing how much you can get done in that time. xx Susan

  5. I think you may have to bite the bullet(!) and go to the dentist. I do sympathise as I hate going myself, but I've never had a toothache that has miraculously gone away on its own. Amber of Maker's Haven did NaNoWriMo last year; I couldn't understand how she found the time either with 3 children that she home schools! She must be Wonder Woman. Good luck anyway if you give it a go, and enjoy the rest of half term. xx

  6. I agree, you need to hie thyself to the dentist! Good luck with the NaNoWriMo project. I'm sure you will succeed. I'm in love with Bertie. He is really majestic. ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

  7. Oh poor you, I’m guessing this is all part of the gum issue. Maybe further investigation at the dentist may sort it out properly but definitely lots of good vegetable soups will help I’m sure. B x

  8. I'm sorry to see that your tooth still aches and hope you get it sorted soon. I've done NaNoWriMo twice, the first time I had to stop after a week or so due to unforeseen circumstances but the second time I actually did it much to my surprise. I don't think that I'd try again. If you do try good luck, have fun and happy writing. xx

  10. I do hope your toothache resolves soon... meanwhile soups are probably a good way to go! My son and his wife were talking about participating in NaNoWriMo too. I think you should do it! It's something I would like to try if I had even the first idea of a story... but I don't!

  11. My best Nanowrimo was about 16 years ago. It was an amazing exercise in consistent writing. The pressure was off, I focused on just writing with a same "story" every day even though it meandered and I didn't have an arc, but still it was a lot of fun just to see if I could write like that every day.

Children do squeeze a quid. We have set up our son with a Teen account that I can monitor. However he rarely spends from it. When he works for his father he spends on something and then squirrels the rest away in his room and stretches it out for unsanctioned lunches (not home packed lunches). He's not a clothes horse by any means but the past year we have been on a buying spree it feels like, because he's been growing so much we have to replace clothes. Makes me miss the school Uni from middle school.

  12. Oh no, that tooth has been giving you grief for ages now. I hope it gets better very soon. 50,000 words is quite a lot of words, four MSc theses worth of words more or less. I am sure your writing is far more fun to read that four theses! I very much hope to see you published one day soon. I can't wait, love your writing. Tell me about children costing a fortune, ours squeeze every last penny out of us. I very rarely carry cash now, it is easier to say that I don't have any money than saying that they can't have this or that.... Wishing you a pain free second half of the week. xx

  13. Hoping you can get your painful tooth to cooperate with your healing efforts and that you bravely type toward your NaNoWriMo goal! Cheering you on! xx

  14. I am sure by now that tooth has been taken care of. Why do we Mother's always put ourselves last? If it was your child they would have been to the dentist is a split second. Wishing you a wonderful weekend my friend.

  15. Oh dear.....tooth pain is no fun at all...only slightly more fun than having to go to the dentist to have it tended to. UGH!! I hope it's all better by now.

Brilliance on the Na-No-ing!! I'm cheering you on from the sidelines....it's a truly amazing experience, my memories are moste fonde. xoxo
