On and on

All sorts of rubbish stuff going on here and it's getting me down quite frankly. I am deploying my usual trick of taking my head and putting it somewhere else entirely as often as I can. I'm becoming a master at not thinking about the hard stuff. Please don't tell me it's not healthy.

I have cast aside a book that is not all lightness and fluff and replaced it with something magical. My diet is absolutely appalling. Every day I think I'lll do better, then the next day I fail. It's not like me. I've eaten masses of vegetables all my life, but now, hopeless.

I didn't mean to come here and moan. I had all sorts of things to say about puppies and ducklings and sunshine, but I shall save them for another day. I just thought I should show you the snowdrops while they are still snowy. We'll be on to the next thing before you know it. Daffodils, crocuses and cheeriness I hope.

  1. The snowdrops are wonderful! And so are the crocuses, by the way. You can come and moan if you wish - that is sometimes better medicine than most anything else, except a slice of pecan pie and a glass of iced tea!

  2. Oh dear - sorry you are in a gloomy place. (Not that great here either, actually - major concerns over one, and now two, of the young adult offspring....)
I think you are entitled to put your head wherever you like.
Daffodils, tick. Crocuses, tick. Cheeriness - well, possibly just around the corner...

  3. I am just pleased to hear from you, whether you're fluffing up ducklings, or singing the blues, and let's face it, no matter what new variety of gin is placed at your disposal ( Turkish Delight / Unicorn's Tears, anyone ?) no one of a normal disposition can be upbeat and cheery all the time. Treat your ability to temporarily place your thoughts away from the immediate, less than wonderful, vicinity as a useful survival skill when the going gets tough. And the last thing you want is doom and gloom from a book. Magic sounds pretty good from where I'm sitting. So does fish and chips. The veggies en masse, and sensible eating will still be there when you're ready to tackle them, and in the meantime, do what makes you feel a bit indulged, you absolutely deserve it, and probably need it, right now.

This time will pass. Snuggle up, treat yourself gently, and feel a virtual arm around your shoulder.

  4. Always happy to hear from you.
And you know, it is refreshing to know that others have days like that too.
Life isn't rainbows and unicorns. Sometimes it sucks!!
I am sorry you are in a down time. I have had my share of those too!
I hope the sun shines in your heart and home soon!

  5. Dear CJ,
Could I recommend a couch session with the lovely Bertie with lots of cuddles? Hopefully he is not the reason for the "moans" and hopefully he still does cute puppy cuddles. We all have days that don't go so well, so you are certainly allowed to have a "moan". Thinking of you.......and hope that things will brighten up a little. We await the things you have to say about "puppies, ducklings and sunshine" in another post.
    Regards, Robyn

  6. Awww.. I can so relate. Here in the USA our "leader" is using his position to rip our country apart and pillage what he can from us peon taxpayers.. all while his "party" supports his horrific behaviors. It's the saddest time of my life. I am trying to divert my attention from the fall of our empire by crocheting a pretty blanket. I feel like Nero who fiddled while Rome burned. I think I will hold my puppy and rub her belly.. :-) ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

    1. Teresa, my American expat friend and I play a game where The West Wing is real American politics and the DT fiasco is a dystopian TV prequel to The Handmaids Tale. We're really looking forward to next series when apparently the insane president is impeached but the evil, insidious vice president takes the opportunity to move his agenda patriarchal forward; this divides the country and we see the start of the move toward the formation of Gilead. Well it keeps us sane anyway. Seriously, from a politically chaotic and increasingly irrelevant Britain I send you lots of lovely crochet best wishes and the hope of a Santos or Bartlett in your future.

  7. It's called displacement and is an essential survival skill. Take your head wherever it gets comfort. Ditch the gloom where you can - unfulfilling books are nobody's friend. Take a flask of nourishing soup to a quiet place where you can watch the snowdrops and crocuses and take some time for yourself. Tomorrow (or next week) is another day.

  9. So sorry to hear that lovely. There seems to be a lot to be gloomy about generally lately and I hope what is going on isn’t anything too serious and that things get better soon. I think it’s natural to protect ourselves from it and it’s true too that we don’t always look after ourselves in the best way when all these other things are going on. Keep on keeping on. ❤️

  10. So Sorry to hear this CJ. Whatever you are facing I hope things improve or you find a way to cope. I'm rubbish at dealing with the stressful things myself.
    Sending you a hug

  12. Hope you begin to feel brighter soon. Don’t suppose it helps but I feel as if you are a friend and I so look forward to reading your posts. In fact yours is my favourite blog, because it feels real and often touches a chord. Always hope I may bump into you one day as we definitely live in the same neck of the woods. And to end with words that help me and mine often: You are Enough!! Right here , right now. Sending warm wishes, Claire

  13. Lovely pictures, I especially like the last one. Reading through the comments I agree with what has been said. Life is often a bit of a slog between Christmas and Easter, all the more so when the latter is late as it is this year. I'm sure that as it gets lighter and warmer your spirits will lift and you'll feel happier. Take care. xx

  14. Hang in there, dear CJ. Life can be totally pants sometimes. Eat cake or crisps or chips and anything that helps you feel a bit better – my grandma always said 'a little of what you fancy does you good'. Hope things look up very soon. Sam xx

  15. On the contrary, it is an excellent coping strategy to not constantly think about the hard stuff in life. Hope things look up very soon xxx

  19. Oh...hang on in there girl, whatever is going on you will go through it and come out of it! Life can be a nightmare at times and switching off is the way to go. Don't worry about your diet, spring and summer encourage us to eat healthier, but for now, one thing at a time, survive the minute, the day!! Loved your pics, you have an eye for beauty.xxx

  21. Love your version of snowdrops, much better than mine. Last nite we had 2" of snow'drops' - took me 1.5hrs to clean off car & drive. Tonight we're expecting 2" - 4" of snow'drops', and Sun nite another 3" - 5" of snow'drops'. At least somebody else is driving Sat & Sun - not me. So like I said, Love your version of snowdrops better than mine.
As to mood & food; eat whatever your heart desires, for in time your mood will catch up. Have a care......

  22. Sometimes, we just have to vent a little in order for puppy dogs, and ducklings, and sunshine to follow. These photos are just wonderful!
    Have a great weekend,

  23. Sometimes life is rubbish and you just have to go with the flow. Daffodils, puppies and healthy food can wait. Sending much love and hugs xxx

  24. Friends are for moaning with aren't they? I mean what would we really be like if all we wanted was fluff, kittens and clouds included. I am always in a mood, so I can definitely relate. Remember this is your space, you can moan and groan and tell funny stories, whatever you want. For those who just want fluff, well they can move on because real life isn't like that at all.

  25. Oh CJ, going a bit off-piste is the healthy thing to do and sometimes the only way to cope. I hope everything gets better soon. Take care. Jane xx

  26. I debated about commenting, given the length of time and my appalling blog reading tardiness, but still wanted to send you a virtual hug. Shit stuff goes on behind most blogs sadly, mine included. Eat all the chocolate, it's allowed. It's as important to look after your mental health as your physical well-being. Xxxx
