The summer starts here

The end of term madness is over.  Let the holidays begin.  I'm sighing a very deep happy sigh.

I paid a last solo visit to the allotment today and weeded, watered and planted some French beans and a butternut squash.

At home I made a box full of cookies and packed a picnic.  Then I took the boys to the park straight from school to let off a little steam.

The biggest boy wants to do absolutely everything tomorrow.  I'm trying to convince him that as we have six or seven weeks ahead of us we should save one or two things for Monday.  As of right now, I don't really have any plans or lists or objectives.  I'm just going to see how it all unfolds.

How about you, do you have any happy adventures planned?  Or will you be winging it?  Whichever way you're swinging, enjoy.  CJ xx

  2. First of all how pretty you look in that last photo - you surely can't be old enough to be the mother of 3 boys as big as yours?!! I remember taking the Wanderer and a couple of friends to the swings after school occasionally or stopping off in the wood on the walk home for a picnic and some tree climbing (them not me) sometimes. I might bake bread rolls in the shape of their initials and take a drink - I don't know if it's something they will recall one day but I certainly used to enjoy it!

  4. The picture of you is very pretty. It's fun to put a face with your words. School gets out late over there compared to here it seems. Glad you're on summer vacation now. What a perfectly wonderful thing that is.

  5. You're so pretty, CJ. I really love your curls. Do your boys wear uniforms to school? I wish we had them. Some schools do but not ours. I think it seems so much easier to have a uniform. I hope you all have a wonderful, relaxing summer break.

Other than an anniversary trip in September, we are "winging it" this summer!

Cute pic of you. Did the biggest boy take it?

  7. You're such a good mom! I hope you have a fantabulous summer vacation! We are making lists for our trip to Waldo Lake for a 10 day camping trip. I'm not sure if you read my blog last year, but I always have some fun photos to post. Hubby and I went downtown so I could pick up a waterproof camera so I can taking it out sailing and swimming with me. :-) Have fun with those cute boys of yours! ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

  16. What a lovely photo of you! I take it one of the boys is a budding photographer. Is that a kite in the background, a bird and the perspective is skewed, or do you have pterodactyls in your neck of the woods? ;)

  18. Hmm, you guys have a very different school schedule than here in the States. Our schools typically let out the first week of June and then go back to school the last week of August. We're already in the thick of summer days over here. Leaving on our vacation bright and early tomorrow. Probably won't get much sleep tonight - I'm too excited!

  19. Hello pretty lady! So nice to see you on the blog. The end of the school year is the best feeling with all that lovely Summer holiday time stretching out in front of you. I mostly prefer to wing things too. Hope you have a wonderful start to your Summer break. Mel x

  20. Aw how cute is it that you take the boys on a picnic. And are they still in school in July?! That's crazy. We are off here June through August. My only real adventure is getting to the beach as much as possible for days trips and then spending an entire week next month. Everything else are are just going to wing it too!

  21. With one away from home and the youngest now 16, we'll be winging it. Mick's got another week off during the holidays yet so I'm hoping we'll have lots of adventures but who knows with teens? Enjoy your break after the madness of the summer term, I remember the frazzled feeling so well.

  23. We still have 3 days of school for the youngest, my 2 boys have already finished. We don't have many plans as yet, buying Uni supplies for the eldest and 2 picking up results days which I'm not looking forward to.
Also a weekend in London at the end of August for me and my littlest one - can't wait for that!
Enjoy a few days of relaxation first, I think you need it!

  24. Oh, I bet that felt good, that Friday trip to the park! We still have one more day to go, tomorrow, then we're done. The kids are exhausted. But I am getting a hair cut and manicure AND pedicure tomorrow (which is the most preening I've had in one go since I got married, I don't know what's come over me) so I am packing them off joyfully tomorrow morning while I go and flick through magazines and wonder what small talk to make to the hair dressers. I'm crap at small talk. I hope tomorrow brings all sorts of wonderful adventures for you and your boys, CJ, and that you have a great week. x

  25. We've made a list of things the children would like to do over the summer... trouble is, it's getting so long there may be no time for sleeping or eating! Hope you have a great summer holiday.

  28. I love that optimistic energy of the last day of school. It's so bright and full of the promise of fun! I know you and the boys will have a great summer break.

When The Kid was younger, I scheduled everything out meticulously since we both work full time. However now that he's a bit older, I still spreadsheet and plan camps, but I've left some free for all days that allow for some days at work with Dad, scheduled day trips (time off) and playdates and grandparent visits.

  29. Hooray for the summer holidays - we are winging ours, as one passport is stuck in the passport office. So lots of day trips, I think!

  30. I LOVE that picture of you! Beautiful! Your blouse and skirt are so cute! I hope you have a wonderful holiday with the boys. We went to the lake this past weekend for just two days, and it's got me itching for a longer vacation. We'll see:) Hope you're having a wonderful day, CJ!
