Waving from my window
I hope this finds you well, despite everything.
Here at Above the River Towers we are no doubt doing many of the same things as you. Walking once a day, dog in tow, online school and PE, a little basketball and tennis in the garden, mowing the grass and adjusting to the new normal.
The boys have been playing together more than they have for ages. There has been bicycle maintenance and even voluntary room tidying. And obviously some enforced, reluctant room tidying as well, I wouldn't want you to think we are abnormal or anything.
Two of them are already in shorts and t-shirts, as if summer was already here. I suppose for my eldest this really will seem in retrospect like a never-ending summer.
The streets are incredibly quiet, despite the allowance of an exercising outing every day. I imagine dogs are missing their doggy chums and wondering why it has all changed.
The little local pharmacy has a queue of around fifteen people standing down the street at any one time, with only one person being allowed in the tiny shop. I am not quite sure what they're all waiting for, given that no-one is unwell at present.
It was lovely to see a post from Soule Mama recently. I especially liked her edict to embrace boredom. I am always saying that sort of thing around here, to much eye-rolling of course. The children have been more creative in the past few days though, digging out old half-built models, rediscovering art, watching things in the pond, playing games and just generally having fun together. All the sorts of things that get lost in the usual busyness of life.
I hope you and yours are all well and that things aren't too difficult for you. I'll pop in again soon and say hello, but in the meantime, take care, and thank you for visiting, it is always appreciated.
Glad to see you are all ok and not overdoing the 'normal' ...!
ReplyDeleteWe did some of that weird spaced out queuing-round-the-block at the pharmacy today. I think the people you saw were prob. collecting prescriptions for other conditions. (If my daughter misses even one dose of her epilepsy medication she can -and does - land up in hospital, and goodness knows where that would end these days!)
Wishing you all the best - and do keep cheering us up!
Nice post and lovely picture. Good to see all is well there, as indeed it is here thankfully.
ReplyDeleteTake care. xx
Waving back, at a safe distance of course. I was out for my once a day walk, today, and a lady out with her family kept turning round and waving at me, I wasn't wearing my glasses and at that distance she was a little too blurry for me to see! I was polite and waved back but I have not idea who she was. Such are the perils of social distancing without my glasses on!
ReplyDeleteI have to pick up a prescription next week... I'll bring a flask with hot coffee for the queuing. We're all good here and I am feeling quite content. There was always so much stuff to do and now there isn't. I was delighted to see Soulemama's post, missed her wise thoughts. My children do the same eye-rolling as yours when I make wise statements. Annie asked me just today if I was trying to be quirky and if I was, it was most cringeworthy... Have a lovely weekend, hopefully your urchins will continue to play together x
ReplyDeleteWaving back! We've just finished day 2 of self-isolation; I'm hoping the weather stays fine as we might just kill each other if we can't get out into the garden either! E is back from uni with an unbelievable quantity of vegetables, many of which are looking rather dubious. Today was a day of beetroot! Hope your boys continue to enjoy their free time and that Bertie doesn't miss his chums too much. xx
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you and the boys are finding good things to pass the time during our confinement. When I've heard kids say they were bored, I would say this: "Only boring people get bored!". Meaning this - there are always so many things we can do to amuse ourselves at our fingertips, reading, drawing, crafting, house and garden work - it takes a clever person to know this and make the best of their time. (Most kids would prefer to be thought of as clever and not boring!! LOL!) I think I'll crochet today! ((hugs)), Teresa :-)
ReplyDeleteMaybe some positives will come out of all this eventually.
ReplyDeleteI've just ordered my repeat prescription but as I'm on the highly vulnerable list they're delivering it to, and I was able to order and pay for other stuff too which will come with it.
ReplyDeleteWaving too! Great that your boys are keeping each other amused, long may it last. Hope you have a good weekend. CN x
ReplyDeleteEmbracing boredom here too. Queues are the new norm. Thankfully no online schooling but certainly enjoying the empty lanes on our walks. All a novelty at the moment, not sure how we’re going to feel in a months time. Stay smiling and keep safe. B x
ReplyDeleteMy favourite response to "I'm bored" was/is -- "How wonderful! Just think of the possibilities!" Eyes still roll, but usually come with a sheepish grin. :)
ReplyDeleteGlad all is holding steady for you....trying times indeed. The only once-a-day walking would not go down well here...I pray it doesn't come to that. I think that people are being sensible but then I'm not venturing much further than our usual walking route and definitely not into shops or anything. Solace is being taken in the garden so that's something.
be exceedingly well xoxo
Waving back from over here in the Fens. I was relieved to discover that visiting the allotment came under 'exercise' - though I'm holding back and not planting too much just in case the situation changes again. Glad your boys are embracing the new normal.
ReplyDeleteWaving back at you. It’s strange but with all this extra time the last thing I feel is bored... i’m Quite happy just sitting sometimes!
ReplyDeleteTake care! I always love your posts!
ReplyDeleteWaving back too! Our days are much the same we tried some PE too the other day with Jo much to my daughter's amusement! Sarah x
ReplyDeleteIt must be awful for those who haven’t a garden to pop out into. I guess the queue is people waiting for repeat prescriptions. I went to the pharmacy a week or so,ago and the staff came to the door as no-one was allowed inside the shop.
ReplyDeleteSo glad you are all well and adjusting to more time at home. I love that the boys are interacting more and finding things to do. We officially started online school today and the whole system crashed. I was not happy as I took the morning off to get my babysitter ready, after many swear words and almost a few tears I called Little B's assistant and told her I was not going to worry about it. I can't spend hours on something and have it not work! So There! Of course we will give it another go, but not today and probably not until Friday when I can give it more time. Stay well.
ReplyDeleteHi there
ReplyDeleteSeeing blogs you love and read avidly is one of the ‘normal’ things in these strange times. Hearing about your family and how they have rediscovered each other is just great. Keep up the good work
Waving back at you lovely. It's tricky isn't it, managing the hours of spare time? But the one thing that's come out of this is how well my two do generally get along. They've been playing together, chatting, laughing, ganging up on me.... it's sweet. Stay well and sane, if possible. ;-)
